Twitter has been the social media starting point for a number of businesses, effective in branding their product in a new and interesting way.¬† Mattel capitalizes on Twitter’s accessibility with their new Ken and Barbie Valentine’s Day campaign.¬† The viral campaign is being used to promote Mattel’s new ‘Sweet Talking Ken Doll’, inspired by the latest teen heart throbs.¬† Not only can you vote for Barbie to make-up or break-up with Ken, but their is an integration with their FaceBook, Twitter, Foursquare and even Match.com.¬† If that doesn’t push the envelope enough, head over to Hulu to watch The Genuine Ken, a new reality show.

As if you don’t already have enough browsers to choose from, Flock releases a new one – essentially Google Chrome on crack.

From the video you can see that there are three major features that sets Flock apart from the rest:

1. The Social Sidebar with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube integration.

2. The link button in the address bar, allowing you to post interesting content on both your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

3. The ability to create a Flock account, keeping your bookmarks and saved content in a cloud to be accessed on any other Flock browser.

In the 2000 school of media– I know that visibility is everything. Writers want to be more popular than the artists/celebs they cover. We create websites using only our names. We make videos where we essentially interview ourselves. We bustle around town with equipment we don’t know how to use to be seen and “on the scene.” We participate in meaningless roundtable discussions that never lead anywhere, and serve no purpose–other than of course, to show that we were invited to the meaningless roundtable discussion.

Twitter has become the perfect medium for us media “tastemakers.”

We can participate in silly music related debates (debates that in no way have any bearing on the actual state of the industry, but serve only to illustrate that we can write 140 characters about whoever the rapper up for discussion is). We can articulate just how much we know, and how quickly we can discreetly google what we don’t know during an especially heated discussion. We can illustrate how smart we are. We can offer brazenly sarcastic commentary on every song that leaks or every ill-advised email blast we receive. After all, how else will people know how many unwanted emails we get per day, or how many people want us to listen to their music?¬† We can brag about where we are, and where you aren’t. We can tell you where we just landed.

It hit me. Without Twitter, how will other “tastemakers” know that I am still “tastemaking?” How will they know I am witty and sarcastic? How will they know that I’m alive?! I mean, sure they can read my bylines or blogs, but…how will they really know if they are unable to read what I’m #nowplaying every hour on the hour– and that my musical taste (and therefore personality) is eclectic, yet grounded, well-informed but approachable? They won’t. That’s how.

My worth, I’ve found–both personally and professionally is synonymous with my Twitter Page.

And my Twitter Page no longer exists.

Therefore, I am… not.

So I posed the question on Twitter today, I wonder which of my Tweets have been favorited? One of my followers [I can ALWAYS depend on my followers] sent me the link to Tweeteorites, a site that breaks down the Favorite Feature on Twitter.  You can find out the top Favorited Tweets of the day, as well as what you favorited and the best feature of all?  What you said in 140 charc. that was favorited by others.

There is no question, that large companies are trying their best to get into the social media space and brand themselves as cool. One such effort involves Ford, the University of Michigan, and the winner of an web application contest.

Ford managed to integrate an app called Virtual Road Rally into a Ford Fiesta, that allows users to map out fun drives, points of interest and local favorites; and share them with others. Now I know what you are thinking, my car would be an awesome twitter personality, however, Ford Engineers set parameters to define emotions for the car. So if the wipers are on for instance, suggest it is raining that the user “it” is not having a good day. Or input from the power train sensors, suspension, steering input, indicate the car is being driven in a fun way, the car can tweet or blog about the fun it is having.

The experiment is happening as we speak, and you can follow them on their trip from Michigan to Californi via their blog, AmericanJourney 2.

We’ve all done it. Looked at the blank text box on twitter and facebook trying to think of something funny, witty, or clever to say, without seeming obvious. I can honestly admit that I over think it sometimes and just write “Chillin” because I cant think of anything to say. Good thing this status generator from Generatus is here to help. ¬† All you do is add a name and a gender and the cleverness just spews forth. I spent a good 15 minutes refreshing the page laughing at all, I wont be surprised if you do the same. Via How about orange.

What is your favorite 80s song?
LaDiDaDi by Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick the Ruler.¬† I just remember when ever it came on the radio, I would stop everything I was doing to listen to it. I had this little black and white radio, that dubbed as a TV tuner and I would search the stations all day between New York’s 107.5 WBLS and 98.7 Kiss FM waiting for the song to come on. One time me and my mom were rushing out the house, LaDiDaDi was on, she turned the radio off for us to leave, and I went completely ape shit. And by the time¬†I got to my little black and white radio and got it to the station… all i heard was “tick tock you dont quit.. Hit it…” I was livid, but I got over it.

Describe the last dream you had.
The last dream I had that I remember was about fish. And we all know what that means… But I don’t think I sleep long enough to dream. I am always awake. I will say that I do have this recurring dream that my photography and graphic design business continues to grow.

Favorite book?
Can’t say that I have a favorite book. But some of my favorite authors include Walter Mosley, Eric Jerome Dickey, Travis Hunter. I just cracked open Stephen King’s “Bag Of Bones.” With a full time job and a side hustle, no telling when I’m gonna finish reading it.
