Last night, E-Dub and I headed down to check out the cool kids over at 2nd and LaBrea. If you are unfamiliar with the mini fashion strip, the block holds some of our favorite shops, including Union, Stussy and Undefeated. Celebrating the release of the collaborative kicks done by Ed Banger Records and Etnies, the party was filled with fashion conscious folks, and industry greats. Free beer and tacos from the Calbi truck kept the crowd on point all night long. Check out the recently released pics of the sneakers.
Okay, so here is the bullshit. Right after I shot the new releases at a couple of shops for StyleEngine, my Nikon died, with no backup battery. DOH! So, here are the spur of the BB and iPhone pics that we got. Enjoy.
Los Angeles has always been a staple city when it comes to fashion, so it is no surprise that dope kicks customizers such as My-Ties hail from here. Check out these adidas Stan Smiths which pay homage to the iPhone, which has gained a serious cult following over the years. It took 46 for My Ties to capture the details of the iPhone, including the home screen and the customer’s favorite apps. If you want a pair of Blackberry or Sidekick customs, hit up My Ties! via Paint or Thread
The Nike Musical Shoe is an invention that I don’t quite understand just yet, but it is really interesting. If shoes are actually made into an instrument, to be played by your hands.

Custom shoe painter JGoods has spent years creating a kit so that anyone can customize their own shoes. The newly released JGoods Sneaker Customization Kit allows any one of you to try your hand at creating your own hand painted shoes that won’t be seen anywhere else. The kit includes a complete guide, specially formulated JGoods Leather Paint and all of the necessary materials needed to start your own trend.
What’s dope about the kit is that it can be used to do everything from changing the color of a panel, do a minor restoration or completely transform the shoe into an original piece of artwork. via JGoods
Awhile back, we featured a new sneaker company for kids, by the name of U*neaks. U*Neaks are sneaker style shoes with clear side panel windows and specially designed socks that allows kids to continuously customize their shoes [by simply changing their socks]. Pair the shoes with any of U*neaks’ double-sided decorated socks for footwear that’s fun and full of personality.
U*Neaks was nice enough to send my little [big] man a pair of their Camel Rev kicks and five pairs of their socks. Check out the unboxing, and his first impression reactions below.
After we shot the vid, Zion spent another 30 minutes mixing and matching his socks, looking at the side panels in the mirror and choosing more socks online for me to buy LOL. Unlike most brands, these are a perfect fit for both the grown up and the kiddo. For the little ones, these are versatile, colorful and trendy. For the parents, these are easily adaptable, and most importantly in this economy…recession proof. At roughly 30 bucks a pair, these are easy on the wallet; and with the different socks, they can match your child’s wardrobe every single day, without having to spend on additional pairs of shoes.
The only criticism both Zion and Daddy had was they both wished they had a glow in the dark element. Interesting concept.

Look kids, it’s me! I guess this makes me some kind of psuedo model now…who knows. Anyway, I heart these shirts by Eighty’s Baby they go perfect with my Jordan 1s [and 4s actually]. And yes, I’m wearing a fanny pack. Don’t judge me.
I really need these. I don’t get excited about much from Alife, but I am a dunk fanatic…and these look classic. Not only that, but the shoe is made of some technical materials from Schoeller, adding wind and water resistance to the shoe’s upper. The upper of the shoe features Cordura and Dynafil TS 70 which a newly developed ultra-strong polyamide backing fabric and resistant to friction, water, dirt and oil repellent.
I have kids. These are perfect.
Please lawd, someone send me these pieces of Heaven.
Parsons School of Design graduate David Park created this crazy video that shows the history of sneaker culture over the past 30 years, which coincides with the rise of hip-hop. It’s a sexy journey through the sole.
The original Poorman Weapons were released in black back in January and in my opinion, didn’t cause much of a commotion. However, in May, the shoe returns, this time in an Olive Green colorway, which has me counting down the days. The upper is reminiscent of classic nylon bomber jackets and is also marked by a removable Converse logo.
