Nike78 Project

Nike is treading into new waters with their latest project. The project, titled the Nike 78,  will allow 78 artist  to work on art projects that were inspired by and included products from the company.

“NIKE78 is an exciting new project created by Paul Jenkins and inspired by NIKE. Creatives involved will receive a brand new pair of NIKE shoes and will be asked to use sport as inspiration to challenge their function. The project will be documented on this website and after the shoes have been collected, an exhibition showcase is planned for the London Design Festival 2010. This is a unique project featuring some of the most talented creative individuals, studios and other organisations.

NIKE have been chosen as the inspiration for this project due to their rich history of creative ventures and the brand’s constant aim to push the boundaries of sport, something which NIKE78 will also seek to creatively challenge.”

I have included a couple of my favorites, but you can hop over to the site and check them all out. I know we have some really artsy readers, if you had a pair of Nike shoes as part of an art project, what would you do? Let us know in the comments.

The Nike Musical Shoe is an invention that I don’t quite understand just yet, but it is really interesting. If shoes are actually made into an instrument, to be played by your hands.

Nike Debuts the AW77 Customization Truck

ahoodie2

I know the musicians and guests at the Musicfest Northwest were geeked when Nike invited them to design their very own AW77 Hoodie in their Customization Truck for its debut. They were able to work closely with a design consultant to devise and create an AW77 hoodie that met their style expectations within 20 minutes.

There is good news folks: we can do this too.

Look out for a customization truck in your area or customize your own AW77 Hoodie through NikeiD with chenille numbers and words.

Now these hoodies aren’t just any ole’ hoodies. I guess you call them historic since the AW77 was created in 1977 by running legend and Athletic West founder, Geoff Hollister, who revamped the workout staple with a half-zip. Today those styles has broadened into fitted colorful full-zips and pullovers.

Visit NikeiD for more information.

I Glove MJ.

heather-mj
Originally designed by Alex Aranovich in 2002, it was manufactured and distributed worldwide, under license by 2K T-shirts from 2003-2005… And now the original “I Glove MJ” tee is back, re-released by the original artist, Alex Aranovich.

Since creating the design in 2002, Alex Aranovich has served as Senior Art Director at Zoo York, and as an Art Director at Studio Number One in Los Angeles. Most recently, he has illustrated automobiles for Lexus magazine, and created identities for brands such as Flight Club, Hall of Fame Ltd, SLBarbier, and Vacation Vinyl.

These shirts have been seen on the likes of Quest Love, an infamous Nike collector/employee who goes by the name RetroKid and Maryss from the Beat Freaks [to name a few]. Maryss holds a special place in my heart, as she had been selected to be one of the backup dancers for Michael Jackson’s UK tour dates.

If you like these, check back with us in a few days…we have a surprise for some of you readers :)
