Pusha T’s new album Fear Of God 2: Let Us Pray, is delivering that hotness for the Fall/Winter season. Yea I said Pusha T! Released  November 8th under Kayne’s G.O.O.D Music label, this album has that ‘moving weight’ vibe paired with great lyrics.  If you are into commercial rap then maybe this isn’t the album for you. In its first week Billboard has the album listed at 8th on the Rap albums chart, 10th on the Hip-Hop/R&B chart, and 66th on the top 200. Blasphemy! We all know numbers never depict how dope an album is, but we know it means a lot of cats are sleeping on the album. So wake up and got get this!

Pusha T has some big name  features on here, but still slang’s that dope-ness on his solo tracks. Some of the hits include:

19 conveyed contemplating, rebound grabbing, ex-ego killing tracks like “Chasing Pavements”, “First Love”,” Best for Last”, and “Tired”. Lyrically and stylistically the album flowed keeping you tuned in wanting to hear what wild thing Adele would say next. Clear and concise Adele presented her situation and took us on an emotionally charged roller coaster but, in the end her decision was clear; this relationship had fizzled out and that was just fine with her. Prompting a more liberated sophomore album, or so I thought.

On 21 Adele seemed to re-think what she said prior and take it all back. Stylistically the album is scattered and over produced, taking away from that soulful sound we all know Adele to have. Smash singles such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone like You” catapulted Adele into the U.S. mainstream (where she sits comfy) however, cruise the contradictory line of adieu and abide, but that’s love right. Lyrically she continues to deliver hard hitting lines, but the energy feels more remorseful than liberated. Is this just the maturation process where after talking a little madness, you think about all the good times and want it all back? Or is it the moment you get older and fear being alone?

Past fans may be riding the same relationship wave as Adele while new fans are wowed in their first discovery of the artist. All in all both albums propelled Adele into a league of elites but, has her 2nd album fallen under the cursed “Sophomore Slump”?

Clearly not, but for the original Adele fans…does it get better with age?

The idea to build the Hip-Hop Word Count came out of having hundreds of heated & passionate discussions about Rap music: Who was the best rapper of all time? Which rapper had the smartest songs? Which was the most popular champagne in Hip-Hop during 1999-2003? Which rapper uses the most clever metaphors? Which city’s rap songs use the most monosyllabic words? Does living in higher altitudes create a natural proclivity for Gangster Rap?

How can analyzing lyrics teach us about our culture?

The Hip-Hop Word Count locks in a time and geographic location for every metaphor, simile, cultural reference, phrase, rhyme style, meme and socio-political idea used in the corpus of Hip-Hop.

The Hip-Hop Word Count then converts this data into explorable visualisations which help us to comprehend this vast set of cultural data.

This data can be used to chart the migration of ideas and builds a geography of language and is the engine for a K-12 teaching curriculum.

In it’s second season, Glee has put Fox back on the map with their snarky take on the life and times of a teenage outcast.¬† While the show itself pushes the envelope, with everything from the overtly gay soprano to the teenage pregnancy ‘who’s-the-daddy] scandal, the publicity for the show has remained somewhat tame.

That is, until last week.

GQ shot a few of the Gleeksters for their most recent issue, showcasing the demure high school girls as over-sexed and downright naughty.¬† While the implication has always been there, none has been as great at this.¬† Yes, it’s acting. But how appropriate is it to lust after a 16 year old girl in a men’s magazine?

Allow me to introduce you to a band who ‘s name suggests that they are by no means satisfied with staying in one place, they are cleverly named, Somewhere Else. The band consists of 3 MCs: Logik, Lonnie Ro,Saint P band producer Jono. They recently put out their debut Single ‘Taboo’ which has managed to make a bit of noise to the benefit of the band. They first got a jumpstart by winning the International¬† Battle of The Bands in 2008, an since then they have been hard at work on their debut project, Master Basement. Their blog has showcased their travels over the last few months from UK all the way to Dublin. Not bad for a band that you’ve never heard of.
