I know what you’re thinking. Who in their right mind would walk around with Terminator aka Star Trek glasses glued to their face…all in the name of technology? I have to admit, I used to be one of you. But after trying out the Vuzix 310XL…my mind has been changed forever. Call me a nerd if you want, but while you are squinting on that time little iPhone/iPod screen, I am watching the same film on the big screen.
Styling, performance and versatility all in a 16:9 widescreen format. The Vuzix Wrap 310XL video eyewear is a new class of video eyewear offering designer styling with unmatched features and performance.
Styling Like Never Before
Stylish eyewear, at home beside the pool or at 35,000 feet, the Wrap 310XL sunglass-style widescreen eyewear allows you to watch your favorite movies and videos without attracting stares. And, if you are looking to be even more stylish the Wrap lens can be replaced with alternate colors to suit your mood of style.
Unmatched Performance
The virtual 55 inch* Wrap 310XL screen offers unmatched performance. It displays both standard 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios and plays standard 2D and side-by-side format 3D movies. A Vuzix Auto 3D feature automatically enables the 3D viewing configuration when supporting media is played.
* Equivalent screen size as seen from 10 feet (approximately 3m).
Includes Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad compatible cable.*
Review
Fresh out of the box, these glasses are a bit overwhelming. With multiple wires and connectors, it takes a minute to get the right ones hooked up to the right things. But, just like any brand new toy, the Vuzix 310XL were worth the wait. After the earphones were hooked up and the nose bridge configured, the glasses were on my face and I was watching a few episodes of Lost in no time. The viewing experience was more like a big screen t.v. than a movie screen, but that’s really tit for tat. Bottom line – it wasn’t nearly as difficult as watching it on a 4 inch screen – something that will come in handy while traveling or relaxing in bed. I will say that the glasses are a tad bit heavy for viewing sitting up, so I recommend laying down or at least leaning back while viewing; very similar to what is shown on the website.
The only downside to the Vuzix 310XL is that while using it with the iPhone/iPod/iPad, the only supported videos are from YouTube or videos purchased from the Apple store. I would love to see an integration with the newest feature; live streaming of your NetFlix queue.

Here’s the ruling itself, but in the long run, it may not make a bunch of difference. The law basically makes it okay for you to jailbreak your iPhone or root your Android/WebOS device. Now the exception allows for you to install legally obtained software, not legally obtained software. Not that any of you guys would ever do something like that. On another note, language regarding unlocking your phone to work on another network has been expended from firmware to “firmware and software”
It has been no secret that the iPhone 4 has an antenna issue. This noise level for the issue has risen considerably in the last few weeks and Apple decided to hold a press conference about it today to get the news out that it is not only their problem. According to Jobs, all smartphones have this issue, and it is not only Apple. Though that does not really provide a solution to those that are getting dropped calls and/or are seeing lower data rates, a free case does. Here are the details:
• If you have an iPhone 4, you can get a free bumper from Apple.
• If you want another case—or Apple’s bumpers are out of stock—you can pick another one from some options.
• If you already bought another case, you get a refund on that.
• The offer applies until September 30; at which time apple will “re-examine” the situation
I guess this works for now. I wonder if there will be a long term solution? Or maybe this is their long term solution. [Engadget]
I have been waiting for this good news. The iPhone dev team has managed to get a carrier unlock working on the iPhone 4, though it is yet to be released to the public. This should bring feelings of spending your good money to those people in the US on TMobile that are stuck on the 3GS. Stay tuned and we will be sure to update you when the unlock is released. Even if you didn’t buy into the mania of the iPhone 4, if you have an iPhone, you checking out MachoArts is a must. They recently featured not one, but 30 wallpapers from the whimsical to the artistic to the, well, super. My iPhone’s Spidey senses are tingling already.
The film you see above was shot and edited on the new iPhone 4. The film, “Apple of My Eye”, a short film by Michael Koerbel, was shot and edited completely on an iPhone 4. I think the Flip Video and all those other “pocket” HD camcorders just had a heart attack.

While some of the apps are things that we have seen before, and are included in the free release of the app, there are definitely some gems that are unique to this release. With interchangeable wallpapers and icons, it’s easy to personalize, as well as simple to navigate. One of my favorite features of the app was how easy it was to zoom in the dark [with the camera functions]. Check out the pics I got in a pitch black room.
With Zoom:
The choices are endless, and the app is constantly updating, making it a great buy for $.99.
Do you want the app for yourself? Good news, we have codes to give away to five lucky readers!

I have long sense let my iPhone go the way of the barter system, but seeing an application like this does make me long for having one again. The boys over at Engadget were able to get their hands on a jailbroken iPhone and test of the Wi-Fi Sync for iPhone. As suspected, the application works well. I am all for leaving the wire behind. The less I have to carry or plug-in, the better. Now the catch. Apple rejected this application, and you will most likely never see it in the app store. The only way to get it now is to jailbreak your phone and venture into the Cydia store and purchase yourself a copy.
