Verizon To Double Early Termination Fee

Well this sucks. Looks like Verizon is not content with being the most expensive carrier in the United States. There is a RUMOR that as of 11/15, they will be doubling their early termination fee to $350. It looks as if this is to stop those shady folks that sign up for contracts and then sale the phones on ebay for a little cash. Sounds like a lot of work for me. As a gesture of good will, it looks like they will take $10 off that fee every month. Based on a 2 year contract, you will still be paying $110 if you want to cancel in the 23rd month. These carriers are insanely greedy.

Wow. The folks at Vodafone have impressed me with this ad. They used 1000 cellphones syncing 53 different ringtone alerts from 2000 sent messages to play Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

I am not sure where my ties lie in the cell phone radiation debate. On one side I want to believe that there is no way something as awesome as a cell phone can not be harmful in some way. On the other had, receiving a chain email saying that cell phone radiation is going to kill, doesn’t help that argument. This is where the people at PONG come in. They have created an iPhone case that “effectively channels the harmful rays away while maintaining full signal strength.” They even have research about it on pongresearch.com. The case is available now and retails for $60.

The case actualy looks pretty good, but no where as nice as my tinfoil hat.

Avoid Wordy Voicemail Greetings.

I’m not sure anyone even bothers with voicemail anymore, most of the time when I hear that familiar voice I hang up and send a text…but hey, there could be so far more patient/old school folks out there that prefer the ‘personalized touch’ of leaving an actual message.

Anyhow, if you fall in that demographic, the Counsumerist has a trick for you to bypass the long, drawn out voicemail greeting.

STEP ONE. Press 1. If it’s Sprint, you get the beep, and you’re done. If you hear an error recording, go on:

STEP TWO. Press *. If it’s Verizon, you get the beep. If not:

STEP THREE: Push #. You get the beep for T-Mobile or ATT.

You have to pause after each one, and you have to keep listening. But it’s one small way to fight back. Remember: One Star Pound.

Dev Team Teases Carrier Unlock For iPhone 3.0 Firmware, Will Demo Tonight

Well yesterday, I tweeted this:

I can wait until the Dev team jailbreaks 3.0…This G1 is killing me.

And today I visit the iPhone Dev Team’s Blog, and my prayers have been answered. Apparantly, tonight is the night and they will have a live demo of the carrier unlock just ahead of Apple’s actual release date (June 19). It was already possible to Jailbreak the 3.0 software, but a carrier unlock is golden goose. Apple must be having quite a hissy fit.

Palm Pre To Launch On June 6

Folks have been going back and forth about the date for weeks, but Sprint finally set the date., The Palm Pre will launch on June 6, two days before the big Apple iPhone 3.0 event and most likely product refresh. It is going to cost you $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Really? A mail-in rebate? But I digress. Anyway you will have to sign up for a two-year Simply Everything plan. They start at $70.
