Just like Tom’s rocks One for One to give shoes and glasses to those in need, Litographs spreads literacy. What is it? Litographs are wall art created from the text of books. Classics, too. They’ve got Harry Potter, The Golden Compass, Alice In Wonderland, A Brave New World and so much more. Yesterday, they released James and the Giant Peach. Next week? Lolita.

With each print purchase a book is donated to a community in need through the International Book Bank.

It debuted at the the top of the NYT’s bestsellers list for children’s chapter books in January and still holds a space in the top five. Time called it an instant classic. And Fox already optioned the movie.

To say The Fault In Our Stars is the it-book of 2012 thus far, is an understatement. It may not carry the scandal and hyper-sexual nature of say, Fifty Shades, but it’s one of the most beautifully written books of its genre in a very long time.

John Green manages to write a love story about cancer with both sensitivity and sarcasm. Told through the eyes of young and terminally ill teen, Hazel Lancaster – he steals our hearts with this book. What’s not to love about a girl who binges on America’s Next Top Model marathons and classic literature and actually cares about the world beyond herself despite her cancer. Throw in an unexpected crush in Augustus Waters and a support group that meets “in the literal heart of Jesus Christ” – well, we’re hooked. Read it now so you don’t find yourself jumping on the bandwagon late like so many did with The Hunger Games.

I love holiday shopping. It’s fun. If I could, I would be a personal shopper. Gifts are my thing. I love finding interesting and thoughtful buys for the people I love. But every now and then you come across a gift so outrageous you bust into instantaneous side-eye.

While checking out the gift finder on Anthropologie I came across the Vintage Books Boxed Set, $2175. Details read:

A one-of-a-kind set in a custom-made case, curated by Kinsey Marable, who left his job as an investment banker to deal with a more exotic commodity: rare and out-of-print books. His passion to create distinctive libraries led him to select these books; the mahogany-stained Baltic birch bookshelf is custom built for the custom collection. The set includes The Artist in His Studio by Alexander Liberman (1988), The Blessing by Nancy Mitford (1951), The World in Vogue by Katharine Tweed, Bryan Holme, Jessica Daves and Alexander Liberman (1963), The Best of Beaton by Cecil Beaton and Truman Capote (1968), The Spirit of Paris by Paul Cohen-Portheim (1937) and The Face of the World by Cecil Beaton (1957).

So let me get this straight. Six vintage books in a custom-made Baltic birch plywood case for 2 stacks? Nah. Not unless you just got it like that. If so, by all means. But with some creative research you can find those books and a cool shelf for about $500 or so on Amazon and even cheaper if you dig the old bookstores and indie online outlets. The holiday season is all about the hustle, don’t get caught out there!

Why, when a housefly flaps his wings, a breeze goes round the world; when a speck of dust falls to the ground, the entire planet weighs a little more; and when you stamp your foot, the earth moves slightly off its course. Whenever you laugh, gladness spreads like the ripples in the pond; and whenever you’re sad, no one anywhere can be really happy. And it’s much the same thing with knowledge, for whenever you learn something new, the whole world becomes that much richer.”
-Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth

This was one of the first books that mattered to me. And to say it’s an important piece of American literature and a childhood classic is an understatement. I read “The Phantom Tollbooth” when I was in the second or third grade. It changed my perspective and pushed my imagination and sense of adventure in the most beautiful ways. Imagine if Seuss wrote a full length novel? Juster has that kind of poetry and fun in his words. To celebrate the occasion, there are two books: “The Annotated Phantom Tollbooth,” with notes by Leonard Marcus and a fiftieth-anniversary edition of the original, complete with a series of short essays by notable readers about the influence the book had. There’s also an incredible essay over at the <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/10/17/111017fa_fact_gopnik" target_"blank"> New Yorker

When I saw the shirt – a creme tee featuring the cover of Maya Angelou’s classic autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings , I had to look twice. It was on clearance for $5.99 and there were dozens of them. It was at a teeny bopper store. I was sad that the shoppers just hadn’t heard much about Maya Angelou. I bought the shirt and looked up the brand: Out of Print.

Out of Print celebrates the world’s great stories through fashion by featuring iconic book covers on tees and comfy sweatshirts. (Brave New World, Moby Dick, Catcher in the Rye to name a few) And part of the company’s mission statement says it all:

How we read is changing as we move further into the digital age. It’s unclear what the role of the book cover will be in this new era, but we feel it’s more important than ever to reflect on our own individual experiences with great literary art before it’s forever changed.

Every dog may have it's day, but posh pups have a story to tell.

Dogs have come a long way from backyard living and digging up dirt. These days, upper class pups get the royal treatment for their unconditional love. There are dog whisperers, dog shows, dog ice cream, doggy daycares, spas, parks and so much more for Fido. But I’m predicting the next trend for pampered pooches — furrytales. It just wouldn’t be the good life if it wasn’t documented. Enter Posh Puppy Memoirs.

That’s right. Custom created biographies about rich bitches (and boys too). The coffee table style books are meant to capture the pup’s story as told by mom or dad. Their first day home, the first time they learned to jump on the couch or a picture of that torn up shoe.

“We’re all about celebrating the dog’s life,” said Tanyanika Davis, who is also an award-winning journalist. “The truth is, they’re more than just a family pet. And our memoirs are designed to capture that sentiment in a meaningful and enduring way.”

There are three packages: the Silver Package ($650) offers a choice between two book sizes with up to 80 pages; the Gold Package ($850) features a still larger book with up to 100 pages, as well as an accompanying brag book of images; and the Platinum Package ($1,150) includes a private session with a pet photographer, among other upgrades.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know it seems steep, but don’t hate. It ain’t tricking if you got it. And the likes of Will Smith, Paris Hilton and other celebrity dog lovers are sure to be up on this.

Posh Puppy Memoirs is based in Riverdale, New York. And being posh isn’t just about luxury, they believe in giving back. They donate to the SPCA in an effort to pamper all pups.
