While African Americans might not being using desktops to access the Web, the mobile sector is a whole new ballgame. According to the report, Latinos and blacks are more likely to own a mobile phone than whites and outpace whites in mobile app use.

Compared with white cell phone owners, blacks and Latinos are significantly more likely to use their mobile devices to:

• Text message (70% of¬†all African-Americans and English-speaking Latinos use text messaging, vs. just over half of whites)
• Use social networking sites
• Use the internet
• Record and watch videos
• Make a charitable donation via text message (this finding is particularly interesting since white internet users are¬†more likely to have made a charitable donation online‚Äî25% of online whites have done so, compared with 17% of African-Americans and 14% of Latinos.)
• Use email
• Play games
• Listen to music
• Use instant messaging

The news hit the web like a tsunami this morning, and now we have the vital information. The new Blackberry Torch 9800 will be hitting AT&T on August 12th for $199. Of course that is considering you sign a two year contract. With the iPhone 4 priced at $199, you have some very interesting decisions to make. The specs are as follows:

• 5 megapixel camera with flash
• Full QWERTY on a portrait slide
• 802.11n support
• BlackBerry 6 (New OS)
• 4GB of onboard storage and a 4GB microSD card in the box
• 512MB each of ROM and RAM
• Quadband 3G radio that’ll travel well around the globe
• A 480 x 360 touchscreen display
• Optical trackpad
• New Media Sync which allows you to sync your media library right over WiFi

Though Blackberry may have things on lock when it comes to getting you your email, the entire OS experience has been lacking to say the least. Both Apple and Google have made tremendous strides with their respective operating systems and continue to widen he gap. But RIM has not been resting on its lions. In fact, BBOS6 should be quite an advancement in the experience category if the video below is more than just fancy camera tricks.  The video shows features like aggregated social network integration, universal search, and the all-new WebKit-based browser (Thank GOODNESS). If you find yourself stranded somewhere with all of your favorite gadgets, and no mobile charger/extra battery, this Technocel PowerPak Universal Charger would certainly be your bff. Cons Of The PowerPak:

|| One At A Time || The PowerPak is a great device in a small package, but this size is probably what prevented designers from adding another port. You can only charge one device at time, which is fine, but if you wanted to charge your Ipod and Blackberry at the same time, it’s not happening.

|| Full Charge Only Via Outlet || If you are stuck somewhere with no outlets, the PowerPak will certainly help sustain your device and will even charge it some, but you can only get a FULL complete charge when the unit is plugged into a wall. I attempted to charge my Blackberry while on a long car ride, the battery went from 10% to 75% in 45 minutes, but it also drained the battery of the PowerPak in the process.

So I was watching Jon Stewart last night and forcing the kids to finish the last bits of my Tampico and Patron sleepy time punch when I saw this commercial for the Powermat Charger. The charger allows you to charge your gadgets without actually plugging them in. You simply drop them on the powermat and walla! Because this tech is still new, you do have to buy a case for most devices, which in the end, will make for quite and expensive system considering the Powermat itself is $100. The cases will run you about $40 a piece.  But honestly, that is not the point of this post. The point is the commercial so check it out below:

For those of us Mac owners who have had a Blackberry since the beginning have unfortunately had no way to sync.¬† There was good ol’ PocketMac, but that wasn’t always such a great and thorough option.¬† Well, now a link has been leaked to save us all!

The second phone they are releasing today is the budget Blackberry 8520. Now I am not sure why this is, but T-mobile is selling it on their site for $129.99, yet Walmart is selling the phone for $49.99. My suggestion would be to hit up Walmart. But then again I don’t have a job and you may wave an extra $80 dollars to spend.

Personally, I don’t know what took them so freakin long. My goodness. but I digress. Blackberry has finally announced that they are working on a client for Mac OSX and it will be available in September. Here are the initial features:

• Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks [if Apple doesn't find a way to kill it, of course]
• Add/Remove applications
• Update your device when new software becomes available
• Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption (security is #1 as always‚Ķ)
• Manage multiple devices

For some reason, I don’t think it will be as robust as the Windows version, but hey you have to take what you can get.

Well once they started to send out invites, we knew it was only a matter of time before they launched an app. The news comes straight from the mouth of Google Voice’s Vincent Paquet who says the application will allow Google Voice users to place calls on their devices and have recipients’ calls display the Google Voice number, and it will also make it possible to view voicemail transcripts within the application as opposed to through the mobile web. Still no word on SMS, but things are definitely moving ahead.Not sure why the iPhone has been left out of the loop.
