<p>This mock commercial for a Black Moses Barbie toy celebrates the legacy of Harriet Tubman. It&#8217;s the first of three and is part of Pierre Bennu&#8217;s larger series of paintings and films deconstructing and re-envisioning images of people of color in commercial and pop culture.</p>
<p>The commercials started running in Black History Month and have continued on to Women&#8217;s History Month as well. We&#8217;ll post the third one when Bennu delivers more from his powerfully creative and inspirational project.</p>

This speech was released by Black Forum records, a subsidiary of Motown, and went on to win a Grammy in 1970 for the Best Spoken Word Recording.  It documents his feelings on the Vietnam war, and why he strongly opposed it. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<blockquote><p>On April 4, 1968, LIFE photographer Henry Groskinsky and writer Mike Silva, on assignment in Alabama, learned that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., had been shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. They raced to the scene and there, incredibly, had unfettered access to the hotel grounds, Dr. King&#8217;s room, and the surrounding area. For reasons that have been lost in the intervening years, the photographs taken that night and the next day were never published. Until now.</p></blockquote>
<p>Some of the photos on the LIFE page are a bit disturbing. I almost feel like I am peering into a time and world where I do not belong. I have attached a few below, but I suggest you head on over and check them out for yourself.</p>
