Todd Oldham teams up with Target to launch the “Kids Made Modern” arts and crafts collection. I love holiday shopping. It’s fun. If I could, I would be a personal shopper. Gifts are my thing. I love finding interesting and thoughtful buys for the people I love. But every now and then you come across a gift so outrageous you bust into instantaneous side-eye.

People have been studying the throne before Jay-Z was officially king, but Georgetown University has made it an official class. The course, “Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z” is a 3 credit course offered this semester. I figured it would be taught by Toure but noted educator and author Michael Eric Dyson is giving out the grades.

RapFix interviewed Jigga and he had this to say:

“Well obviously Jay-Z is one of the greatest entertainers of the world today,” he said. “Not only is he a remarkable rhetorical genius, he’s also a man of deep sympathy and empathy for those who are lost and vulnerable, but especially under-educated youth of all cultures and stripes.”

The course covers Jay-Z’s book “Decoded,” Adam Bradley’s “Book of Rhymes,” Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s “Empire State of Mind,” as well as other articles and films about hip-hop in general. I wish they had this as an elective when I was in school.

I sat down and plugged in to Sunday’s premiere of ABC’s storybook-inspired “Once Upon a Time.” I love a good fairytale twist and no one can blow your mind quite like the writers behind cult favorite “Lost.” I wasn’t the only one tuning in, the first episode drew in 12.8 million.

But the series already has some competition. Friday, NBC brings it with “Grimm,” a drama inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales. It takes place in Portland and follows Detective Nick Burkhardt a descendant of elite criminal profilers known as “Grimms,” charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. Celebrating the human billboards of North Korea’s Mass Games, these visual artworks involve the synchronized movement of up to tens of thousands of participants. Often they work together to collectively display large images by the perfectly timed raising of single colored pages from a book of printed sheets. Traditionally, it celebrates strong nationalist themes and symbolism of their country’s leaders. When we come together, we do big and beautiful things.

This was one of the first books that mattered to me. And to say it’s an important piece of American literature and a childhood classic is an understatement. I read “The Phantom Tollbooth” when I was in the second or third grade. It changed my perspective and pushed my imagination and sense of adventure in the most beautiful ways. Imagine if Seuss wrote a full length novel? Juster has that kind of poetry and fun in his words. To celebrate the occasion, there are two books: “The Annotated Phantom Tollbooth,” with notes by Leonard Marcus and a fiftieth-anniversary edition of the original, complete with a series of short essays by notable readers about the influence the book had. It’s sure to be wacky, whimsical and wonderful! The Hollywood Reporter says Johnny Depp and his production company are developing a live-action film about the life of Dr. Seuss. Depp has the option to star as the famed author and we hope he takes the opportunity. I mean really, who better to capture the brilliance behind “The Cat In The Hat,” “Oh The Places You’ll Go” and “Green Eggs and Ham?” Not only that, who else can balance the wacky with the real life grit of the one man who was both Theodor Geisel and Dr. Seuss.
