We have heard a lot about how revilutionary the iPad will be when it is launched this month. Well I, for one, am holding out on giving it my full blessings. However, if this video is accurate, this looks pretty nice.

He’s one of the best to ever do it in the world of children’s books. And when we’re talking about t-shirts, Junk Food is tops. So on his birthday, grab a Junk Food Seuss Tee and then take a trip to Seussville.
In honor of Seuss, the NEA kicks off Read Across America events happening across the country this week. It’s the nation’s largest reading celebration! Literacy was near and dear to his heart, so if you’re looking to toast him, this is a great way to start.
Happy Birthday, Seuss.

Check out this flip book, originally created as a personal project back in 2007. Since then, it has been published in Japan, as well as featured on Japanese television and websites. Are you really shocked, they get all of the cool shit. Instead of animation, the book creates a 3D rainbow right in the palms of your hands. Awesome.

As a little girl, there was one thing I always looked forward to at school. The book fair. Oh how I remember the sticker books, tote bags and stories of Superfudge, Romona Quimby and so many more.
Well, Fred Flare is hosting a book fair of its own and rewarding nerdy shoppers with a little discount. Through Monday, you can gets books and stationery for 25% off with the code “bookfair.”

Harry Potter. Twilight. Sookie Stackhouse. Percy Jackson & the Olympians. Whether it’s witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, fairies or gods, people are obssessed with the supernatural.
And there’s a new crop of series popping up – The Mortal Instruments, Hunger Games and most recently, Beautiful Creatures. The first two have already been bought with plans to bring them to the big screen. I imagine Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl will bring the pages of southern witchcraft in Beautiful Creatures to life soon enough.
Are you over the supernatural or happy to read and see more? What say you?

It’s a new year and we’re only a few months away from the highly anticipated look into Tim Burton’s whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland. It will be an adventure to see what he does with Lewis Carroll’s daring story.
And for fans of Alice, there are tons of the most celebrated book in children’s literature being released in the coming weeks. So far, the paperback version featuring the awesomely dark illustrations of Ralph Steadman is making a splash with pre-orders before its release on Jan. 15.
Of the many editions out, which is your favorite? Or is it all the same journey down the rabbit hole? I definitely think the visuals create a life of their own.

I have a few USB drives laying around the house, but none of them are as scream worthy as these Cullen Crest USB drives. Not only are they shaped like the Cullen Crest, the contain the soundtrack to the New Moon soundtrack. Tyme Machine, maker of licensed USB drives, partnered with Summit Entertainment and Atlantic Records to the delight of teen-aged girls and Jazzy. The drives are 3″ tall and come in 4Gb at $24.99 to 16gb at $59.99. If you or a loved one is into the Twilight juggernaut, this looks like a worthy addition. The drives are available now on the Tyme Machine website.
Being that it is the holiday season, Tyme Machine is going to give away a Cullen Crest/New Moon Soundtrack drive to one of our readers. So here are the rules:
1. You must be 18 or over to enter.
2. You must live in the US.
3. Leave ONE comment stating whether you are Team Jacob, Team Edward, or that you hope they are both killed by a legion of battle ready lawn gnomes.
4. Comments will be open until tonight, December 21, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time
(Any comments left after this time will not be included)

Time Warner, Conde Nast, Meredith, Hearst and News Corp. have officially joined forces to create a new way to save the magazine industry; digital distribution. Basically, the analog (read: hard copy) model is struggling and they need to do something to help save the business. They need to find a way to get the content on the devices that people are using everyday; cell phones, e-readers, laptops, tablets, and ipods. I should mention that NOTHING has been created yet. The video above is just a sampling of what could happen. This is more of an announcement of the companies coming together. If they are looking for names, I have a few suggestions. How about the League of Extraordinary Magazines, Magazine-o-rama, or The Interzine?
They definitely face come challenges, as people have developed a sense of “free.” It is the best and worst thing about the internet. I am a big fan of magazines. I love the art of magazines and realize the effort behind making it happen. I hope that this all works out. The press release is below:
LEADING PUBLISHERS FORM VENTURE TO OFFER CONSUMERS NEW DIGITAL STOREFRONT AND PORTABLE READING EXPERIENCE
Initiative Will also Offer Marketers Rich Array of Innovative Advertising Opportunities
New York, NY, December 8, 2009 – Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corporation and Time Inc. today jointly announced that they have entered into an independent venture to develop open standards for a new digital storefront and related technology that will allow consumers to enjoy their favorite media content on portable digital devices.
The goal of this digital initiative is fourfold, to create: a highly featured common reading application capable of rendering the distinctive look and feel of each publication; a robust publishing platform optimized for multiple devices, operating systems and screen sizes; a consumer storefront offering an extensive selection of reading options; and a rich array of innovative advertising opportunities.
Beyond the publications of the equity partners, the venture will welcome other publishers to offer their content via this new digital platform. Publishers will derive revenue from content and advertising sales, as well as from print subscriptions.
“For the consumer, this digital initiative will provide access to an extraordinary selection of engaging content products, all customized for easy download on the device of their choice, including smartphones, e-readers and laptops,” explained John Squires, the venture’s interim managing director. “Once purchased, this content will be ‘unlocked’ for consumers to enjoy anywhere, anytime, on any platform.”
For publishers and advertisers, the venture will offer an attractive, cost-efficient, consumer-focused environment. Advertisers will be able to utilize innovative formats that benefit from the highly engaging, interactive nature of this new medium. In addition to entirely new magazine and newspaper reading experiences, content selections may ultimately include books, comic books, blogs and other media.
For the hardware, software and retail industries, the initiative will provide dynamic new business opportunities by organizing a library of quality content with a common format and technical specifications. The venture partners represent an unduplicated audience of 144.6 million according to Mediamark Research & Intelligence (MRI). By the end of 2010, Forrester Research estimates that 10 million e-readers will be sold in the U.S., and according to m:Metrics (comScore), there will be over 50 million smartphones in the U.S. by the end of 2010.

A lot of book enthusiasts are on the fence about the e-reader takeover, because there really is nothing like turning your own pages or reading an inscription someone wrote just for you. But let’s be clear, there’s something tempting about being able to have all your books at your fingertips.
The Kindle, the Nook and the Sony Reader are at the forefront of the debate. But the one that seems to get the most shade is the latter. Until now, Sony didn’t have wireless access but they did have the sexiest of e-readers, clearly borrowing pages out of Apple’s book of design and marketing. Like the iPod family, Sony has a family of readers and price points. $199 gets you the Pocket (basic for beginners like the shuffle), $299 gets you the Touch (touch screen) and $399 gets you the Daily (wireless, finally).
The Reader Daily Edition is just what they need to compete in the big battle of books gone digital.
For $399 (ouch), you get wireless access to Sony’s eBook store allowing bookworms to browse, purchase and download books, newspapers and magazines. Find compatible sites and get your USB out for personal document and content download. Poor world of print. And for basic wireless connectivity there is no monthly fees or transaction charges. For someone who reads well over a dozen new books a year, it could easily be worth it.
The seven-inch wide, touch screen display reads in both portrait and landscape. The Daily Edition has the look and feel of an overgrown Nano, sexy and durable. Plus, it has enough internal memory to hold over a thousand eBooks. For the book ballers, you can buy memory cards for extra storage. Sony is taking pre-oders now and shipping throughout December.
Me? I’m still rocking old-fashioned books. I am tempted by the iTunes like options the digital books offer. But I will be holding out for a few more months, as e-readers gain popularity the options will expand and prices will certainly drop. But for those of you with long money, go for it and let us know what you like about it.

White Gown Symphony is an Etsy shop that specializes in Harry Potter knits; in particular scarves. Everything is handmade by the owner, with scarves ranging from Slytherin to Gryffindor inspired colors. The name White Gown Symphony comes from a few pieces of magnetic poetry which fell together on their own accord, and the shop owner simply fell in love.
I was sent a baby scarf as a sample, colored blue and grey for the Raven House. The length was perfect for my 2 year old, although I can’t get him to wear it. Made from soft, acrylic yarn in a deep blue and light gray/silver, it will be perfect for our chilly Winter. Each end is tied with an exposed knot and fringe end. After a few wears, the fringe is holding up well, and the scarf looks professional and well made.
Check out the length of the adult scarves, which lock in at a cozy 8 feet in length with an additional 5″ of fringe on each end.
Do you want your own Gryffindor Scarf? While, the world is on back order in White Gown Symphony’s shop, you are going to have a scarf courtesy of NerdLike!
