Rumor has it “Transformers 4” will have a new lead: a high school girl. According to Spoiler TV, they’re looking for a female lead (as opposed to quick-witted, social outcast Sam Witwicky played by Shia LaBeouf). This will definitely give the new movie a fresh, new perspective — which was promised by Michael Bay himself. Female characters in the past have played beautiful love interests, but no more! The love interest for the new lead? A Texas racing driver boyfriend.
It might be hard to imagine now, but a new cast could be great for the franchise. By allowing the lead to be a high schooler again, as well as being a woman, it will take the movie towards a different course. Using high school students will allow the series to be received in a positive light with a younger crowd. . . which is always a good thing.
The new cast will bring a fresh perspective to the franchise, but not to be confused as a complete redo. Michael Bay stated in an interview with Hero Complex that he doesn’t want people thinking they’re doing a complete reboot, like “Spider-Man.” “We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction,” said Michael Bay in the interview.
The new movie will pick up where “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” left off and will be based on the alien robot toys created by Hasbro, according to Film News. I can’t say what my expectations are for the flick, but I have high hopes. I know I can expect a movie filled with “baysplotions,” robot wars and high-speed chases.
Peter Cullen: Optimus Prime
Although they want a fresh, new cast, what’s a Transformers movie without Optimus Prime? It has been confirmed that Peter Cullen will be returning to voice Optimus Prime. Can you imagine if they replaced him? That would be like having Adam Sandler voice the character of Homer Simpson — so wrong and upsetting.
Bay stressed that Cullen would come back to voice Optimus Prime, recently saying “...When I heard his voice, it game me chills.”
The Franchise Made HOW MUCH?
Can we really be surprised Michael Bay came back for a fourth movie, after swearing he was stopping at number three? Not really. I mean, would you want someone else taking over your baby? Didn’t think so. It’s astonishing how much the films have raked in, if I were to guess the fourth installment will bring more than any other movie so far.
“Transformers” raked in $709 million while “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” made $836 million worldwide. Although getting mixed reviews, the third movie “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” made an outstanding $1.12 billion.
