By now you’ve seen the poster by Ohio University’s Students Teaching About Racism in Society (STARS). The PSA has gone viral and its a good thing, because every Halloween some ignorant and hateful costumes never fail to make appearances.
These posters campaign against that, with the slogans that say “We’re a culture, not a costume.” I only hope that people realize there are costumes that go beyond the stereotypes that are equally as hateful, degrading and dismissive. No more black face costumes or KKK getups. And beyond race and cultures, no more insensitivity toward eating disorders and mental illness. It’s all fun and games until you offend someone and get your ass kicked on Halloween. Just saying.
