Talk about power in numbers. North Korea’s human mosaics are the subject of German film director and photographer Werner Kranwetvogel recently released photo book, A Night in Pyongyang.
Celebrating the human billboards of North Korea’s Mass Games, these visual artworks involve the synchronized movement of up to tens of thousands of participants. Often they work together to collectively display large images by the perfectly timed raising of single colored pages from a book of printed sheets. Traditionally, it celebrates strong nationalist themes and symbolism of their country’s leaders. When we come together, we do big and beautiful things.
