Meet Shea Hembrey a truly amazing artist, in his search for “exquisite craftsmanship and technique” he decided to create a biennial (Seek) that consisted of 100 artists. In doing so he ended up doing the whole event himself, you may think to yourself how on earth can one artist create a biennial that shows 100 different takes on art and media ? well he “made” them up.
The idea may seem absurd at first but as it dwells within your subconscious it becomes increasingly intriguing ; a one man biennial is ludicrous in itself , but against all odds he has accomplished it. Hembrey has managed to create unique art pieces using fabricated personae, his alter ego’s include Calinda Salazar and Fletcher Ramsey who curated the project.
The madness theme continues with the actual art pieces ; such as “The Love Nest” in which the artist uses nature to create art, Hembrey cleverly left
assorted contraception devices in areas he knew birds will pinpoint on whilst making this nest, the result being a serious of nest constructed out of weird and unusual material.
Shea Hembrey has literally stretched the term artist, incorporating imagination and remarkable intelligent insight into his work, he has definitely set the bar for what is expected of an artist.
