Ladies love Taye Diggs. And many of them are looking for him to return to prime time this Thursday in an all new season of “Private Practice.” But Diggs is doing a lot more than acting. Today, he and best friend, critically acclaimed illustrator Shane Evans released Chocolate Me.
As a child, Diggs looked different from a lot of the neighborhood children. They picked on his beautiful dark skin and strikingly white smile. But his mama taught him to embrace his differences and those of other kids too. He soon learned a lot of the taunting came from a lack of understanding. This book is meant to help parents have those conversations with their tots.
The story started as a poem. And Digg’s lifelong friend, who is more like a brother, Shane Evans, brought the complex emotions and bittersweet lesson to life with the colorful world in “Chocolate Me.”
The book isn’t meant to divide or ridicule. It’s meant to teach children to appreciate individuality and see the sweetness in our differences rather than act bitter toward them. Look for more from “Chocolate Me” and check for the t-shirt too!
