30,000 Year-Old Cave Star of 3D Movie!

The Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave in France is an interesting place to say the least. Re-Discovered in 1994 by three French speleologists: Eliette Brunel-Deschamps, Christian Hillaire, and Jean-Marie Chauvet, the 1312-foot cave¬†contains some of the worlds best preserved cave paintings. Paintings so well preserved, that some even appear to be painted in three dimensions. From the expected horse and bison, to the more unexpected like weird butterflyish animals or chimerical figures half bison half woman, the cave paintings are so sophisticated it is hard to believe they were created over 27,000 years ago.

Oddly, the final “room” of the cave contains high concentrations of CO2 and radon gas, which are said to provoke hallucinations. A possible explanations to some of the weirder looking animals painted on the walls. Either way, it does prove that altered mind states often produce incredible results.
