Nexus One

It is finally official. The Google Nexus One was unviled today by Google and is everything we had hoped. Here are the highlights:

The phone cost $530 unlocked and $179.99 on a T-Mobile plan. Both Verizon and Vodafon will be following suite this Spring. You can order it from www.google.com/phone and you can also take a virtual tour.

  • 3.7-inch display, 480?รณ800 AMOLED Display
  • 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • Light and Proximity Sensors
  • GPS
  • Accelerometer
  • 5-megapixel camera with LED flash
  • MPEG4 videos with one click upload to YouTube
  • Stereo Bluetooth
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Active Noise Cancellation (via two mics)
  • Custom Engraving (Huh?)

On the Software Side:

  • News and Weather Widgets (Location-Aware Weather)
  • Facebook
  • Google Maps
  • Dynamic Animated Background (bleh)
  • Android Apps
  • 3d Albums

Voice

  • Search and Voice Command (i.e., navigate to target)
  • Google Earth for Android (Not available at launch)

They are calling it the a “superhphone,” but at those prices, I am not sure how well it is going to do.

What they need to do is get that multi-touch right, link up with DoubleTwist and ditch the music app built-in, and find some packages on networks other than T-Mobile. That $500+ is hurting, and the $180, is still more than what you can get the Droid for on contract. I give it a few weeks, month tops before they start running new promos
