Apple iPad

By Kutty

It is finally here. The Apple device that technology geeks have been fawning over for the last few years. Or well at least that is what they hoped. Insead, Mr. Jobs walked on stage and introduced a new hybrid device aimed at….I am not exactly sure. I don’t mean to be rude or dismissive, so before I get into my narrative, I will give you the facts:

  • 0.5? thick and 1.5lbs light
  • 9.7? IPS display, capacitive multitouch touchscreen
  • Built-in accelerometer, mic, 30-pin connector, 802.11n Wi-Fi, compass, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 3G (AT&T Only in US. Cost extra)
  • 10 hours of battery life and one month standby time!
  • 1GHz Apple A4 processor
  • 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Flash storage
  • Able to run iPhone/iPod Touch applications

And this is where I begin to give my narrative. By all standards, the device is absolutely beautiful. It takes the iPod/iPhone OS, a massive success for Apple, and translates it into a bigger screen. But that is exactly where my problem lies. This by all other accounts is a big iPod Touch. While watching the announcement this morning, a friend called and said he was “SOLD!”. I on the other hand was not. I felt like the device was redundant. Don’t get me wrong, my laptop and desktop do the exact same thing, with the exception of my laptop being portable. But it is the portable portion that makes it worth it. I have been reading the net to see if I was alone and it seems about 50/50. Some people felt there was a need for a device that help the middle ground between laptop and smartphone, I for one don’t feel the need. If I want something light-weight to carry around, I will take my iPhone. If I am going to be doing heavier browsing, I bring my laptop.

I could go into a lot more here, but I don’t want to frame your opinions anymore than I already have. Once I get my hands on one, I will give it a quick run through and see if it changes my mind. But in the meantime, I leave you with a few links to get you up to speed on Apple’s new iPad.

Lots of of bloggers not very pleased with the new iPad.There was just 2 much hype over it and lots of blogers got turned off.Thing is, I for one see some of the awesome potential uses of this gadget. Third-party soft for doing tunes, games, papers and magazine and books, tons of good stuff, but they failed to sell it right (excluding the books). It feels rather not finished

Apple’s a company I’ve enjoyed for some time, they produce gadgets that is aesthetically beautiful while working like a champ. Alot of companies aren’t like that, it’s typically one or the other. Companies don’t usually take aesthetics seriously like Apple. With that being said I’ve got to say that I’m very excited about the upcoming iSlate. One thing I question though, is it too soon? I think that this may be ahead of its time. What do you think?
