Recently, we have seen a surge of these learning bikes, all going by different names to serve the same purpose.; to teach your tot/small child how to ride a two wheeler with confidence [sans training wheels]. The Strider Bike is one of the forerunners in this genre of bikes, providing a solid balancing bike to help your child cruise down the street without the risk of wobbles and tip-overs.
One thing you will probably immediately notice about these bikes is that there are no pedals. I know, this concept seemed odd to me at first also, but check out the vid for more of an explanation:
The Strider™ teaches your child balance, coordination and develops glittering confidence. Trikes and bikes with training wheels don’t. Traditional bicycles place too much of the focus on learning to pedal — skimping on developing your child’s motor skills. And these bikes are heavy, clunky and difficult for kids to control.Bike riding becomes a breeze when you teach your child balance and coordination before pedaling. The Strider™ takes pedaling out of the mix so that kids can concentrate solely on learning balance, which takes more practice. Pedaling is a secondary skill that kids can easily learn within a few short minutes.
The Review:
The Recommendation:
The Striker Bike is designed for children 1 – 5, however, out of the box I can see this working up until age 4. There is an adjustable seat you can put on the bike for your tall or growing child, but it is not included in the initial set up. At 2.5, my average size son is the perfect size for the bike. Other than that, the running/learner bike is a great idea for the small child, building confidence as well as teaching them right out of the gate to ride on two wheels. While a bit pricey at $99.00, the bike itself is a great investment, if bought early enough and especially if you have multiple children.
Do you have a small child ready to ride on two wheels? Well Strider Sports is giving away one of their bikes to one of you!

My height challenged 2 1/2 year old would love a green one of these.
I'd love a green one for my daughter, to match my son and husband's bikes.
