The Samburu Project

The Samburu, a nomadic tribal community of over 150,000 people, live in a remote area of Northern Kenya. The women in this tribe have no rights, are the property of men and are circumsized as young girls. Astonishingly, they have an even bigger problem: a lack of clean water. The women walk up to twelve miles a day in search of what we bottle up and waste every day.

The Samburu Project aims to build 25 wells in Samburu and bring water to the people. You can donate directly to the project or the next time you are out gift hunting or shopping, think about getting a Public Library Samburu tee. The clothing company offers about six different shirts ($23-$48) that benefit the project. And everyone from Beyonce to Kristen Bell has been spotted rocking one. So don’t just shop, buy the gear that gives back.
