SlouchBack…Review and Giveaway

By Kutty

Picture 2

The SlouchBack is essentially an inflatable couch back for your bed. Five years ago, in a dorm room not too far away, two college freshmen with aching backs conceived a product designed to redefine dorm rooms forever…. It provides a great¬† tool for getting ladies into your bed option for those of us that have better taste then our roommates and wanna watch Hamlet in our rooms instead of a Hell’s Kitchen marathon in the common area. Literally with a flick of a switch and about 30-seconds, you can turn any bed into a comfy couch.

Materials

The Slouchback feels like it is made out of the same stuff that quality air mattresses are made of. However, it feels a bit thicker and was able to withstand some pretty heavy punching and kicking about. It comes with an integrated air pump that you plug into any standard wall outlet to operate. It has a micro-fiber cover that can be washed, and comes in Navy, Red, Tan, Brown, Pink, and Blue. If you are extra rough with your SlouchBack, it comes with a mini repair kit. Although, based on the comments that I have read, I don’t think you would actually get rough enough to have to use it.

Design

Know that SlouchBack may not win any industrial design awards, but it is definitely functional. It is shaped like the back of couch with two arms rest and accompanying cup holders. Size wise, it looks to  a little more than 6 feet long and 2 1/2 feet wide while and inflated, and when folded back up for storage about 1 1/2 feet long and about a foot wide.

Usage

After plugging it in and waiting about 30-seconds for it to inflate, I found it to be a bit bigger than I expected. Designed to serve as a make shift couch on your bed, I actually found more comfort, using it on the floor at the foot of my bed and in front of my living room table. After plugging it in and waiting about 30-seconds for it to inflate, I even laid across it length-wise and used the arm rest as a pillow. Part of this has to do with the fact that I don’t like watching TV or playing video games in the bed. It is a weird thing with me, but when I did use it as requested, it worked as stated.

I can also see this getting some usage at a bachelor pad with very little furniture. If you don’t have a couch, a couple of these and some rugs and you are all of a sudden artsy and economical. As far as kids go, I let my niece and nephew keep it for a weekend, and my brother reported back that they used as more of a bounce play toy they could lay on while watching TV. (Basically, they turned it upside down and layed on top of it)

Recommendation

Add $99, you are really not going to be able to get something as portable and convenient as the SlouchBack. Is it something a SAHM is going to want to use? Probably not, but her husband, and kids definitely wouldn’t mind having one at the house just in case. I am positive they would find something to do with it. In addition, if you have a college kid with a limited amount of space, this is perfect for spicing up their room a bit and making it a bit more comfortable on those late nights up making out studying with the cute girl/guy from Anthropology 101.

I don't have any dorm memories but I have lived with "a slob" who totally trashed my home. This was over a year ago and I'm still finding something broken or appliances that don't work anymore. No more roommates for me!

My favorite dorm memory was being able to decorate my room literally like a nightclub. I had cool lights hanging all across the room. I also had blinking lights and cool posters.

There's nothing like staying in to study for a test on a friday night only to have drunk people running through the halls wreaking havoc to wish you were out doing the same XD

My fave memory, and it's an odd one, is finding out about liquid fabric softener from a dorm mate. My mom never used the stuff, and when I found out about it, I was hooked. lol
