There aren’t many shows that can say the President wished them a Happy Birthday. But “Sesame Street,” isn’t just any show. Sure, there’s a new crop of kiddie icons: Dora, SpongeBob, Diego. But Jim Henson’s muppest have the longest-running children‚Äôs program on American television, 8 million viewers on 350 stations in 120 countries.
It’s been proven to help kids score higher on letter and number recognition, vocabulary and early math skills. Few shows can say that they have done for kids what “Sesame Street” has. And not only is it their 40th anniversary this year, today, is Oscar the Grouch’s birthday. So wherever you are, remember those days when you were racing to the TV to tune in to the green grouch and his friends. As fancy and cool as the new school kid shows may be, “Sesame Street” will always reign supreme.

And I STILL watch it. So what.
