“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” set a record for the highest per-theater average, $100,000, for a movie playing at more than six locations (It opened in 18) and is set to go nationwide on Nov. 20. Kudos! Let’s raise a glass to such an important movie that breaks Hollywood’s glass ceiling, just a little.

While everyone is celebrating the indie movie that could, there is also a lot of fuss over the deeply talented cast, particularly, Gabourey Sidibe. Yes, she’s the new it-girl and she does have a little glow about her, a confidence so bright you smile at her.

But there’s another debate going on over the young actress. The Root has a controversial¬†piece about the fine line between celebrating self-esteem and giving obesity a pass. What do you think?
