Kodak ESP 3250 and 5250 All-in-One Printers Use Cheap Ink

picture-229

Nothing like finding something useful on the internet. Kodak announced the ESP 3250 and 5250 all-in one printers today and they look pretty spiffy.

The ESP 3250 at a $130 price point it adds a multifunction card reader and a 1.5-inch LCD.

The ESP 5250, at $170, adds Wi-Fi to the mix, a welcome new feature. It also keeps the multifunction card reader and has a 2.4 inch display.

These printers both use Kodacolor, a tech which reduces ink costs by up to $110 a year. Kodakcolor is definitely cheaper than the other guys. A three-color cartridge costs $15, and black is $10. Compare that to Canon’s ink, which is $13 per color and $15 for black. Now We just need to see what the colors look like on paper.[Kodak]

I had a Kodak All-in-One printer and it lasted just under a year before it no longer would print or scan and when it did print there was barely any ink on the paper. However, before the problems I do agree that the ink was very cheap and it created wonderful pictures and the color was excellent. I got a lot of scanning and printing done while it was operational. I’m currently in the market for another printer but do not think my next purchase will be a Kodak because it did not last long at all before the problems started.

To select cheap ink on the web is so easy but selecting quality cheap ink require some research.

A pile of crap. This printer gives low ink warnings and refuses to print even when there is clearly ink in the cartridges. Scanning is hit and miss, all the scanner wants to do is scan pictures and it takes a bit of fiddling with the scan software to scan a page of text and pictures. Installing the driver software also installed some crappy photo management software and now when I plug in my web cam (not Kodak) the scan software automatically starts. Avoid this printer like the plague. Zero rating.

It's nice to know that some are offering cheaper consumables. They usually lower the price of the printer to almost a loss and make all the money on the cartridges.

I'm getting very poor quality scans with this product – a lot of multicolor "breaking up" and "crosshatching" (for lack of more precise terms) of dark areas, even at the higher resolutions. Also, the printer's text quality isn't NEARLY as sharp as that of my $69 Epson c120 – quite a bit of "overspray" even at the highest quality print settings. About the only thing it does well enough for my usages is to print giveaway photos (NOT from scans, however – they're just not very good), and plain-paper promo flyers for my band. Be very realistic of what you expect from this all-in-one, with the ink price, "economy" is the best one-word description for what you'll be getting.
