If you need that email immediately, then looks like Google just helped you get your fix. Previously, you were only able to push your contacts and calender, but now PUSH email is a go on the ole’ mobile device. The trick, or better stated, the way around Apple’s grip on the iPhone, is to set it up through Exchange. Check the Google Mobile Blog for more info.
