Glassblown Recycled Beer Glasses [Review & Giveaway!]

By Jazzy

red stripe
Nick Paul, a glass blower from Chicago sent me a set of his recycled beer glasses to review. When they showed up on my doorstep [via UPS] I was a bit nervous. UPS has a tendency to not be so careful when it comes to shipping, however, Nick’s packing was impeccable. With each glass packed uber securely, they were perfect. The Red Stripe set came with six 12 ounce glasses and a beer carrier.

Each glass looked as if it was intended to be that way, perfectly formed with absolutely no imperfections. It’s probably due to the process…

The transition from bottle to glass is an interesting one. It starts by washing the bottle, then placing it into an annealing oven. The oven is set to 1001 degrees, and let to sit for 30 minutes. The bottle is heated until the glass begins to move. A special tool is then used to open the narrow bottleneck into a cylinder. Once the bottle is in its final shape it is then placed back into an annealing oven to cool, to assure no stress fractures form in the cup.

These glasses were a hit at our recent 4th of July party, with everyone wondering where I got them and how they were made. It turns out that Nick Paul can make any bottle with a painted label into a glass, all you have to do is ask. Also, the glass itself is thick and durable, unlike some of those trademark glasses you may find at your local grocery store or WalMart.  I ran these through the dishwasher over 7 times so far and they remain unchanged.

The exciting news is that one of you won’t have to wait too long for your own, as Nick will be giving you your own set of beer cups [valued at 60.00] for free! The winner will get a full set of six 12 ounces glasses, with their choice of either Red Stripe, Rolling Rock or Corona.

I like these glasses because I can put my daughters drink in it and she can feel like she’s having a cold one with mommy. The fact that they are wellmade may actually help them survive a 6 yo.

By far my favorite is the Absolute Pear Vodka vase/drinking glass. That means I only technically had 1 drink lol. I may have to cop these even if I don’t win the giveaway.
