Twitter was abuzz with talk of Asher Roth last night, who posted a homage to Don Imus’ inappropriate rant. After being at Rutgers, he joked of ‘hanging with nappy headed hoes’. After the response didn’t go over so well with his followers, Asher quickly retracted and later apologized. Less than one hour later, Asher claimed to have been ‘hacked’ and not making any of the statements himself.
After reading the timeline, I don’t believe he was hacked at all. I think he is like every other sarcastic ass out there who finds themselves comfortable and occasionally says something that goes a little too far. When you are the average Joe and make a comedic statement, life goes on. When you are in the public eye [on MTV, the radio] and buzzworthy, you have to know that every move you make will make the press.
Personally, I don’t give a damn what he said. I don’t listen to his music, nor do I care about his position in the music industry. However, I have lost respect for him as an artist. If you put something out into the world, then own it. Stand behind the statements you make, whether you want to or not. Shifting blame to a so-called hacker is not only immature, but it’s a sign of bitchassness. And I just can’t get down with that.

Get over it. He was clearly making fun of Imus, really. What do you mean you don’t care about what he said, his music – then turn around and say you lost respect for him – you never had any to lose.
While I really, truly don’t give a shit about WHAT dood said..to agree with the post, I would just appreciate it if he kept 1 hunnit and stood behind it all. As soon as I saw it, I knew that he would back pedal. And the fact that he seemingly thinks we’re too stupid to see that the oringal post was deleted when it didn’t go over so well is the more insulting part!

@LowTide I am not disagreeing with you re: his intention with the tweet. Whether he was being serious, sarcastic, or trying to be funny…it doesn’t matter to me. He can make all the nappy headed hoes comments he wants, but when someone asks you ‘Asher, did you say that?’ I don’t want to hear him say…’oh, it wasn’t me. Someone hacked me. I would neevvvveerrrrr do something like that.’ Stand up. Be a man. Take ownership in what you do and say, especially in an industry that demands that.
